“…we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you
worthy of his calling” (2 Thessalonians 1:11)
Who am I? – Most people struggle to give a proper answer to
this question. We confuse our profession with our identity. We say: “I am a
plumber” or “I am a businessman”. We reflect on the various roles that we
have: “I am a parent” or “I am a child” etc. We can retire from our professions
and our roles can change as stages of life change. There must be a deeper sense
of our identity.
Calling, vocations, կոչում these are words that we use interchangeably to mainly discuss a person's inclination of embracing a religious order – such as priesthood. When we study the New Testament however we see that we are all called to follow Christ. Our life then becomes a response to Jesus’ calling. This perspective gives a new meaning and a purpose to our existence.
The calling to follow Christ is our identity because we find
ourselves to be in a relationship with a loving God. When we say Yes to Christ’s
calling we see God use our talents, our roles, and even our weaknesses and make
us His workers in the Kingdom of God. As children of
God, we experience the love of God and we make that love a tangible reality in a
world where a lot of people are thirsty to experience a genuine sense of love.
You are a child of God. God adopted you when you were baptized.
You are created in the image and likeness of God and you are called to share
His divine nature (2 Peter 1:4). Don't lose sight of this great reality while you deal with the daily strides of life.
You have received God's invite. RSVP ASAP.
